How Tõlk.fm marks AI content

Under the EU AI Act (Article 50), AI-generated audio and text must be marked in a machine-readable way and disclosed to people. We use several independent layers, so one being stripped does not erase the others.

Audio watermark (TWM1)

Every AI voice we produce carries an inaudible watermark in the sound itself. It survives format conversion, compression and most editing, so it can still be found in a recording of a recording.

Signed metadata and C2PA

Exported files also carry a signed provenance record (in the WAV or MP3 metadata, the video container or a WebVTT note) and, where the format allows, C2PA Content Credentials. The signature proves Tõlk.fm issued it and that the content has not changed since.

Signed export list

Every export ZIP includes AI-PROVENANCE.json, a signed list of each file with its fingerprint and whether it is AI-generated, plus a plain-language AI-NOTICE.txt.

Listeners also see an “AI-generated voice” label in the player, and cloned voices get an audible AI notice. The verification keys are published at /.well-known/tolk-ai-provenance-keys.json, so anyone can verify our signatures without this page.
